Yesterday, I received an email from one of my former students who I taught during the 1987-1988 school year. I could remember him exactly as he was in 8th grade, and now he has sons of his own, one of whom is in middle school!
We as teachers do not always realize the impact we have on our students. This year, for the second time, I was beginning to wonder if all the extra time and money I spend trying to make a difference was worth it. Along with some kind words I have recently received from former parents and students, the email made me feel better than I have in a long time.

ReplyDeleteGlad to know it reassured you, that what you do makes a lasting and real impression upon the children you teach. Because you DO make a difference. As I told you in that email (This is David BTW) You ARE my favorite teacher during my entire academic journey. If I couldn't grasp the concept of something when taught one way, you would come up with a different way to look at it. Which is something that still lasts with me. I try to look at things from ALL perspectives for a FULL understanding of it.
Remain the terrific person that you are, and I wish for you to continue teaching for as long as it makes you happy and fulfilled.
Fond Memories,
David Preston
